DISASTER RESPONSE

The Lighthouse CDC demonstrates that “embrace the mission and pursue the vision” through our Disaster Response. We are a caring organization, seeking to partner with individuals, community and faith based organizations to help our communities around south Alabama especially during crises and emergencies. 

The BP Gulf Oil Disaster has exposed the human and ecological cost of our dependency on fossil fuels and the human impacts from this horrific event. We continue to assist over 200 people in our area with claim form completion, child care assistance, food distribution, and those seeking opportunities for career and job training.  Working with our partners we refer those who need utilities and rent payment assistance to those in the area with those resources.

Our efforts were demonstrated in our response to Hurricanes Ivan and  Katrina.  After the storm wreaked havoc to the Gulf Coast across southern Alabama, our  organization pulled together to begin a long process of first supplying basic survival immediate needs of the communities involved, and then beginning the process of rebuilding. Over a period of several months over 1200 people were assisted in our surrounding areas with everything from food, shelter, clothing, home restoration, new home construction, health awareness and education.
